Call for Projects – Rules & Regulations

Introduction

Ventana Sur ANIMATION! is dedicated to promoting and fostering Latin American animation within the region’s leading audiovisual market. Its mission is to increase the international visibility, development, and circulation of animated feature films and series from Latin America.

Eligibility

The call is open to Latin American producers and filmmakers with animated feature film or series projects currently in development or pre-production.

Projects with international co-production potential and a strong artistic and production vision will be given special consideration.

Projects combining live action and animation are also eligible, provided that at least 50% of the final work consists of animation.

Applicants may submit one project per category (one feature film and one series).

Key Dates

• Open call launches: July 31, 2026
• Submission deadline: September 4, 2026
• Selected projects announced: October 7, 2026

Programme
Selected projects will participate in a tailored industry programme as part of Ventana Sur, including:

Pitching Sessions!
Selected projects will be presented during official pitching sessions before an international jury and leading animation industry professionals. All pitches must be delivered in English.

One-to-One Meetings
Individual meetings with production companies, distributors, broadcasters, streaming platforms, sales agents and international funds aimed at fostering co-production opportunities, business relationships and strategic partnerships.

Awards & International Opportunities
Participating projects will be eligible for special awards, training opportunities and invitations to international events dedicated to animation and project development.

Participation Requirement

Projects must meet the following criteria:

• Format: Animated feature film or series
• Target Audience: Children, Young Adult, Adult or Family
• Country of Origin: Majority-produced in a Latin American country
• Previous Participation: Projects previously selected for Ventana Sur ANIMATION!, or submitted more than twice, are not eligible.
• Authorship & Artificial Intelligence: Submitted projects must primarily result from the creative work of their authors and creative teams.
  Artificial intelligence tools may be used solely as supportive tools within the creative process and may not replace the project’s artistic or authorial creation. Projects or submission materials—including, but not limited to, screenplays, character designs, backgrounds, storyboards, animation, teasers or presentation images—whose content has been created predominantly using generative artificial intelligence systems will not be eligible. The Organization reserves the right to request additional information regarding the creative processes involved and may disqualify any project that does not comply with these requirements.

Project Dossier Requirements

Applicants must submit a project dossier in English, in PDF format, with a maximum length of 30 pages, including the following information:

General Information: Cover Page

• Original title and English title
• Country(ies) of production (including co-productions)
• Production company information: email, telephone number and website

Technical Information

• Format
• Animation technique
• Running time
• Number of episodes (for series)
• Target audience
• Current stage of development

Narrative Content

• Logline (one sentence)
• Short synopsis (maximum 300 characters)
• Long synopsis (maximum 1,500 characters)
• For series: one-paragraph summaries of three episodes
• Project description, including the story world, tone and artistic vision, as well as the rationale behind the chosen animation technique

Visual & Sound Design

• Visual and sound approach
• Character and environment descriptions (concept art or model sheets, if available)
• Visual development materials, including original artwork and/or properly credited visual references
• Additional graphic materials (character sheets, backgrounds, environments, etc.)
• Link to a teaser, trailer or animatic (if available)

Creative Team

• Short biography and filmography of the director, screenwriter(s) and producer (maximum 300 characters each)
• Confirmed key creative and technical team members (including roles and nationalities)

Director’s statement

Production & Financing

• Development status and production timeline
• Estimated total budget (USD), financing plan and production strategy
• Confirmed financing percentage and funding sources (letters of commitment, if applicable)
• Previous participation in markets, labs or development programmes

Marketing & Distribution

• Audience and distribution strategy
• Marketing and communication plan
• Copyright information (where applicable)

Selection Process
Projects will be evaluated by an international selection committee composed of professionals with expertise in animation and the international marketplace.

The committee will primarily assess:

• Artistic quality
• International potential
• Production viability

Participation Commitments
Each selected project must be represented at Ventana Sur by at least one accredited participant (producer and/or director), who will be required to attend the event and present the project during the official Pitching Sessions.

All pitches must be delivered in English, without exception.
Selected teams are also required to participate in all online training sessions prior to the event, as well as rehearsal sessions conducted online and/or on-site during Ventana Sur.
Ventana Sur will provide two accreditations per selected project. Travel and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the participants.

Terms & Conditions

• Submission is free of charge.
• Applicants warrant that they hold all necessary rights to submit the project.
• The Organization may use submitted information and images for promotional purposes across its communication channels and media.
• Selected projects commit to participating in Ventana Sur if chosen.
• Any matter not covered by these regulations shall be resolved by the Organization.
• Submission implies full acceptance of these Rules & Regulations.
